FAQ
SAT Prep Questions & Answers
Common questions from NYC families about our SAT and ACT preparation program.
When should my child start SAT prep?
We recommend starting SAT prep at least 3–6 months before the test date. Most students begin in the spring of sophomore year or fall of junior year. However, students who need significant score improvement benefit from starting earlier. We’ll assess your child’s readiness during the diagnostic session and recommend a timeline.
How is GeniusPrep different from SAT prep courses like Kaplan or Princeton Review?
Large group classes move at one pace and miss individual gaps. At GeniusPrep, every session is private and one-on-one. Your child’s tutor builds a plan around their specific weaknesses—not a generic syllabus. Our incentive-based method also keeps students motivated and accountable, which is the biggest factor in sustained score improvement.
How much can my child’s SAT score improve?
It depends on the starting point and commitment. Students who complete our full prep program (typically 15–20 sessions) see an average improvement of 150–250 points on the SAT. During the diagnostic, we’ll set a realistic target score based on your child’s baseline and college goals.
Do you prep for both the SAT and ACT?
Yes. We offer comprehensive preparation for both the SAT and ACT. During the diagnostic, we assess which test is a better fit for your child based on their strengths. Some students perform better on one test over the other—we help you make that decision with data, not guesswork.
Can SAT prep sessions be done remotely?
Absolutely. While many families prefer in-person sessions at our 928 Broadway location in the Flatiron District, we offer full remote tutoring via video call. Remote students receive the same personalized curriculum, practice tests, and progress reports as in-person students.
Ready to raise your SAT score?
Start with a 2-hour diagnostic session. We'll assess your child's current level, set a target score, and build a custom study plan—all for $150.
