GeniusPrep™ is a tutoring center located at 928 Broadway, Suite #1206, New York, NY 10010. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information when you visit our website at geniusprep.com or use our services.
What you send us through the contact form. Your name, your email address, your phone number if you choose to give one, your message, and the one-line answer to "I'm a…" if you fill it in. With it we record two technical details: the IP address the message was sent from, and a single word describing how you reached the site, such as whether you arrived from our Google listing, from a search engine, or by typing the address directly. Everything on that list is stored in our own database and emailed to the tutoring center so we can answer you.
Anonymous counts of what visitors do. We count a small number of actions on the site: tapping the phone number, clicking an email link, clicking a "Book" or pricing button, using the Regents score tool, and sending a form. For each one we store three things — which kind of action it was, a short label for the button, and the address of the page. We do not store your IP address with these counts and we do not set a cookie for them. The phone, email, button and form actions are also sent to our visit statistics (below), where they are grouped with the other pages of the same visit. They tell us how many people clicked a button. They cannot tell us who did.
Checks against automated submissions. When a form is sent we compare the sending IP address against the public list of Tor exit nodes, we look at a hidden field that a person never sees, and we look at how quickly the form was completed. If any of these suggests an automated submission, the message is kept but marked, and nobody is notified. The result of the check is stored alongside the message. The IP address is also held in memory for a few seconds to limit how often the same source can send, and is not kept for that purpose.
Visit statistics. We measure visits with Umami, open-source software that runs on our own server, not a third-party service. Its only purpose is to measure the site's audience. For each page viewed it records the page address without its parameters, the page title, the name of the site you came from (not the exact page), your country, region and city, your type of device, operating system, browser, screen size and language. It also records the actions counted below, without their content. It sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser, unless you ask not to be measured (below). It does not keep your IP address: it uses it, together with your browser, to compute a code that groups the pages and actions of one visit and changes every month. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is recorded. These statistics are not shared, sold, or used for advertising or profiling, and they are erased after 25 months.
Storage in your browser. Three short entries: the single word that records how you reached the site, the first page you opened, and the last page you moved from within the site. They live in session storage, which your browser erases when you close the tab, and they are sent to us only if you choose to submit the form. If you use the SHSAT or TACHS practice test, your answers are also kept in your browser's local storage so you can come back to them; they are never sent to us. If you ask not to be measured (see Visit statistics), one more entry records that choice in local storage. There are no cookies of any kind, advertising or analytics, and no third-party trackers on this site.
What we do not do. We do not run any third-party analytics product: the visit statistics above stay on our own server. We do not build a profile of your visit, we do not follow you across other websites, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your information.
Contact form submissions are stored on servers we control, reachable only by the people who run GeniusPrep, and are kept as long as we may still need them to serve you or to answer a question about your account. You can ask us to delete yours sooner. The anonymous action counts are not linked to you and are kept as aggregate figures.
