ISEE Test Dates — seasons, deadlines, and how to find your seat

There is no single national list of ISEE test dates, and any site showing one is either guessing or reproducing the calendar of one test site. E3n, which administers the ISEE, does not publish a fixed date calendar: every test site — schools, testing offices, Prometric centers and at-home administrations — opens its own dates. What is fixed, and what actually governs your planning, is the season structure: Fall covers August through November, Winter covers December through March, and Spring/Summer covers April through July. Your child may sit the ISEE once in each of those, for a maximum of three sittings in a school year. To find a real date, search by location and format in the official ISEE registration portal.

Three, at most — once per testing season. E3n states it plainly: a student who takes the exam in September, during the Fall season, must wait until December, the start of the Winter season, to sit it again. This is much tighter than the SSAT, which allows up to six paper Standard sittings inside a testing year, and it is why an unprepared ISEE sitting is genuinely costly: it does not just produce a low score, it consumes one of only three chances.

It depends on the format, and it is set relative to your chosen test date rather than being a single fixed day. For an online test, registration is open until three days before the test date and then closes — there is no late option. For a paper test, standard registration runs until 21 days before; late registration is available between 20 and 14 days before and carries a late fee; and some sites offer walk-in registration inside 13 days, but only with a walk-in code the site provides, and it is never guaranteed.

For a child applying to start in September 2027, the Fall season — August through November 2026 — is the default, because it puts a score in hand well before the December and January deadlines that most NYC independent schools use. The Winter season works as a second attempt if the Fall score lands below target, but only if your schools are still open in January or February; several are not. Always check each school’s stated deadline rather than assuming a common date, and remember the report has to arrive, not just the test to be taken.

Scores from online administrations are usually ready in three to five days; scores from paper administrations in five to ten. Reports are released in your parent account and go automatically to any school you have designated as a score recipient. You can remove a school from that list up until your child’s test date — but not after they have tested.

Yes, renamed. The ISEE was long associated with ERB and erblearn.org; that site now redirects to admission.org, and the organisation administering both the ISEE and the SSAT is E3n. If you are following instructions from an older guide or an old school handbook, the erblearn.org links in it will still forward, but the registration portal is where dates and seats actually live.

At-home testing is available for all levels, Grades 2 through 12, remotely proctored and in the online format — so no travel at all. In-person options are the member school your child may already attend, professional testing offices offering small-group or individual sittings, and Prometric centers, which take Grades 5 through 12 only. Note that at a Prometric center a parent or guardian is required to stay for the duration of the test, with no exceptions.
