Global History and Geography II Regents curve history — what a 65 cost at every sitting, and at every essay score

The honest answer needs two axes. At an essay score of 2.5, across the 17 published administrations the Part I and Part II Score needed for a 65 has run from 16 (June 2024) to 20 (January 2023) out of 35 — a spread of 4 points. But the essay moves the same line further within a single sitting: on August 2026 alone, a 65 took 26 objective points with an essay of 0 and 11 with an essay of 5, a spread of 15 points. Neither figure says anything about the next sitting.

Because NYSED does not publish one. This exam converts on a two-way chart: the Part I and Part II Score down the side, the Part III Essay Score across the top, and the final score where they meet. There are 11 essay scores on that axis — 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5 — so there are 11 different 65 lines in every administration, not one. That is why the tables here are wide rather than tall, and why a site that quotes one number for this exam has quietly dropped an axis.

On the August 2026 administration, an essay score of 0, 0.5, 1 or 1.5 puts 85 beyond reach entirely: even a perfect 35 on the Part I and Part II Score converts to less than 85 in those columns. That is why those cells are printed here as "out of reach" rather than as a dash — a dash would read as missing data, and this is published data.

No. NYSED publishes a conversion grid only after an administration has been scored, so no grid exists for a sitting that has not happened, and the movement in this series is not regular enough to stand in for one. This page is a record of what the exam has actually required. Treating it as a rule for a future sitting would put a number in a student’s head that nobody can stand behind.

Because those administrations never took place: June 2020, August 2020, January 2021, August 2021, January 2022 were cancelled around the pandemic. The line on the chart breaks rather than jumping the gap, because joining the two edges would draw a data point that does not exist.
