ISEE Registration — which level, which site, and what it costs

Registration is done online by a parent or guardian in the ISEE parent account at iseeonline.erblearn.org. Note that this is a separate account from the one used for the SSAT, the Standard Application Online and the Character Skills Snapshot — an SSAT login will not open an ISEE registration. Inside the account you add your student, choose the level from the grade they are applying to, search the available sittings by location and format, select your score recipients, and pay. If your child needs testing accommodations, request and obtain those before you register: E3n advises against booking a test until the accommodations decision is in, because moving the booking afterwards costs a rescheduling fee.

There is no single ISEE registration deadline, because there is no national list of ISEE test dates — each school, testing office, Prometric center and at-home administration opens its own sittings. The cut-off is counted backwards from the date you choose. For an online test, registration is open until three days before and then simply closes; there is no late option. For a paper test, standard registration runs until 21 days before at $130 or $170 depending on the grade band; late registration is open from 20 down to 14 days before at $175 or $215; and some sites offer walk-in registration inside 13 days at $190 or $230, but only with a walk-in code the site gives you.

Between $130 and $250, set by the testing site, the format and the grade your child is applying to. At a school or at home with a school proctor: $130 for Grades 2–4, $170 for Grades 5–12. At home with an E3n proctor: $185 and $250. At a professional testing office: $185 or $225 for group testing, $210 or $255 for individual testing with accommodations. At a Prometric center: $250, Grades 5–12 only. Registering late for a paper test adds to the fee rather than replacing it — $175 or $215 for late registration, $190 or $230 for walk-in.

The level follows the grade your child is applying to, not the grade they are in now. Primary 2, Primary 3 and Primary 4 correspond to applications for Grades 2, 3 and 4. The Lower Level covers applications to Grades 5–6, the Middle Level Grades 7–8, and the Upper Level Grades 9–12. A student in eighth grade applying for ninth-grade entry therefore sits the Upper Level, which is also the version used as a high school entrance exam. The Primary levels have no essay and are shorter; Lower, Middle and Upper all carry four scored sections plus an unscored essay.

Once per testing season, and there are three seasons in a school year — Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer — so three sittings at most. E3n gives the worked example itself: a student who takes the exam in September, in the Fall season, must wait until December, the start of the Winter season, before testing again. This is why a rushed registration is expensive in a way the fee does not show. It does not only produce a weak score; it consumes one of three chances.

It depends on where you booked, and the two schedules are genuinely different. For a test at home, at a school or at a testing office: rescheduling one day or more before costs $50, and cancelling costs $55 taken out of the refund — with no refund at all if the cancellation comes more than 90 days after you paid. At a Prometric center: free 31 days or more before, $25 from 30 to 15 days before, $45 from 14 to 5 days before, and $75 to reschedule inside four days, where cancelling returns nothing. In both cases, on or after the test date there is no rescheduling and no refund.

Yes, and you request one from a school rather than from E3n — fee waivers are not available directly from the test provider. Ask an E3n member school or organisation you are applying to, before you register. Eligibility rests on planning to apply for financial aid, and members judge it against their own market; the published illustration is a family income around $80,000 for a family of four. A universal ISEE fee waiver covers free registration at any grade for testing at a school, at a testing office or at home, and includes free online practice through Test Innovators. It does not cover Prometric testing, although some member schools make a limited number of separate Prometric waivers available. Current waivers expire on July 31, 2027.

You can add schools at any time, including after seeing the scores, and there is no extra fee for doing so. Removing a school is the part with a deadline: you may take a school off the recipient list up until your child’s test date, but not after they have tested. Families always receive their own copy of the report, and you are never obliged to share it with anyone. Note also that only a complete report can be sent — you cannot share one section from one sitting and another section from a different one.

Same organisation, renamed. The ISEE was long associated with ERB and erblearn.org; the information pages now live on admission.org and the organisation behind both the ISEE and the SSAT is E3n. Older links still forward, so nothing is lost if your school handbook cites erblearn.org. One exception is worth knowing: the registration portal itself has stayed at iseeonline.erblearn.org, and that is where the official site still sends you to register.
