SSAT testing year 2026–27

SSAT test dates, 2026–27: six Saturdays, and the Sunday that closes each one

Dates checked against E3n (admission.org), which runs the SSAT, on .

Unlike the ISEE, the paper SSAT has one national calendar: six Saturdays, from Saturday, October 10, 2026 to Saturday, March 13, 2027.

Each date has three cut-offs, always on the same weekdays. The regular price ends on the Sunday three weeks before the test. Then a $59 late fee for one week, then a $100 rush fee until registration closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on the Wednesday before. Pick the Saturday from your schools' deadlines first: a paper score usually takes two weeks to reach them.

Next SSAT Standard date

4days left to register for the Saturday, October 10, 2026 test, with a $100 rush fee on top of the test fee. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 7.

Elementary Level (grades 3 and 4): only two of the six dates offer it, November 14 and December 12, 2026. SSAT at Home and Prometric do not offer it at all.

Changing a date: moving a paper test to another date, center or format costs $49 and is possible until 11:59 p.m. ET on the Wednesday before the test. E3n does not refund a canceled registration.

Flex test: one more paper test per testing year, given on a date set by a member school or an educational consultant (consultants add their own fee).

Already know the date? Our test registration planner shows which window is open today and what it costs, for the SSAT and five other tests.

What each option costs, and what it changes

The Saturday calendar only binds the Standard paper test. If none of the six dates fits, the two computer-based options run on other days, at a different price, for Middle and Upper Level only.

Which one to pick

The paper Saturday is the cheapest for Middle and Upper Level at $177. With the late fee it comes to $236; with the rush fee, $277, which is more than Prometric ($250) or SSAT at Home ($263).

SSAT at Home costs more but has no late or rush fee, and its score usually comes back the Wednesday after the test. It needs a computer, a webcam, a quiet room and a parent in a nearby room for the whole test.

Prometric suits a child who wants a weekday or a date none of the Saturdays offers. Seats depend on the center, so book as soon as you register.

These fees go to E3n, not to us. What tutoring costs is on our SSAT prep page.

After the test

When the school receives the score

A deadline is met when the score reaches the school, not when your child sits the test. Count back from the earliest deadline on your list.

Standard paper test

Within 2 weeks

Usually within two weeks of the test date; in rare cases up to three. There is no paid fast scoring.

SSAT at Home

The Wednesday after

Scores usually come out on the Wednesday after the test.

Prometric center

Wednesday after the week ends

Scores come out on the Wednesday after the Sunday that ends the scoring week.

The score reaches your family account and the schools on your recipient list on the same day, but only after a parent completes the Testing Experience Statement in the SSAT account. Do it the evening of the test. You can also see the score first and add schools afterwards: a school added after the release sees it straight away. How the score is built, with a quarter point off for each wrong answer on the Middle and Upper Levels, is on our SSAT prep page.

Which NYC schools take the SSAT

Of the 59 New York City private schools on our list of admissions tests, school by school, 26 accept the SSAT for at least one entry grade. Every one of them also accepts the ISEE: none asks for the SSAT alone. Each line was read on the school's own admissions page on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

The last column counts back from the school's application deadline: the latest Saturday whose score usually arrives (two weeks) before it. Many schools accept scores after the application date, and the school's admissions page gives its own score deadline, so check it before you rule out a later Saturday. If that Saturday has passed, SSAT at Home and Prometric return a score within days of the test.

SSAT or ISEE?

On our list, every New York City school that reads the SSAT also reads the ISEE, and 14 schools read only the ISEE for at least one grade. The two calendars work in opposite ways. The SSAT has fixed Saturdays and allows up to six Standard sittings in a testing year. The ISEE has no national date list at all: three testing seasons, one sitting in each, and each test site opens its own dates.

Our ISEE vs SSAT guide for NYC parents compares scoring, the guessing penalty and the school lists. If you choose the ISEE, its calendar is on ISEE test dates and testing seasons.

Questions

SSAT dates, answered

What are the SSAT test dates for 2026–27?

The Standard paper SSAT is given on six Saturdays: October 10, November 14 and December 12, 2026, and January 9, January 30 and March 13, 2027. The Middle and Upper Levels can sit on every one of them; the Elementary Level (grades 3 and 4) only on November 14 and December 12, 2026. The two computer-based options run on other days: SSAT at Home on select weeks, Tuesday to Saturday, and Prometric at most of its centers every day.

When is the SSAT registration deadline?

There are three cut-offs for every Standard date, and each falls on a fixed weekday. The regular price ends on the Sunday three weeks before the test. From that Sunday, a $59 late fee applies; from the Sunday two weeks before, a $100 rush fee, until registration closes at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on the Wednesday before the test. For the Saturday, October 10, 2026 test: late fee from Sunday, September 20, rush fee from Sunday, September 27, last day Wednesday, October 7. With testing accommodations, registration closes 14 days before the test, and the accommodations must be approved first.

How much does the SSAT cost?

In the US and Canada: Standard or school Flex, Elementary Level (grades 3–4): $112; Standard or school Flex, Middle/Upper Level (grades 5–11): $177; SSAT at Home, Middle/Upper Level: $263; Prometric SSAT, Middle/Upper Level: $250. The $59 late fee and the $100 rush fee apply to the Standard paper test only. Changing the date or the test center of a paper test costs $49, and E3n does not refund a canceled registration. Fee waivers are requested from the schools you apply to.

When do SSAT scores come out, and when does the school see them?

Standard paper scores are usually released within two weeks of the test date, and in rare cases up to three weeks; there is no paid fast scoring. SSAT at Home scores usually come out the Wednesday after the test, and Prometric scores the Wednesday after the Sunday that ends the scoring week. Schools on your recipient list see the score the same day you do, but only once a parent has completed the Testing Experience Statement in the SSAT account. You can also see the score first and add schools afterwards: they get access straight away.

How many times can my child take the SSAT?

The SSAT testing year runs from August 1 to July 31. Inside it, a Middle or Upper Level student can take up to six Standard paper tests and one Flex test, one SSAT at Home, and for now one Prometric test (E3n says this moves to two later this fall). An Elementary Level student can take three in all: two Standard and one Flex.

Which NYC private schools accept the SSAT?

26 of the 59 New York City private schools on our list accept the SSAT for at least one entry grade, read on each school's own admissions page on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Every one of them also accepts the ISEE: none asks for the SSAT alone. The table on this page gives each school's application deadline and the last Standard date whose score usually arrives before it.
