We publish twelve-year series for the older exams because twelve years of charts exist. Here they do not, and no amount of wording turns one point into a trend. Where the record is a single line, we print the single line.

Physics comes round once a year, and that changes the plan
All 10 conversion charts New York has published for Physical Setting/Physics are June administrations, June 2015 through June 2026 — there is no January chart and no August chart in the record. The one chart for the new exam is a June sitting too.
In Algebra I or biology, a June that goes wrong is repaired in August. In physics it is repaired the following June, alongside whatever that year holds. Families discover this in late June, which is the worst possible moment to discover it.
So physics is the subject where starting in the autumn rather than in April actually changes the outcome, and it is the one subject where we will tell a family in March that the honest plan is a heavy spring rather than a light one. Old papers are still the best practice. Their scores are not.
A decade of released physics papers exists, and kinematics, forces, energy, waves and circuits did not change because the standards were rewritten. Those papers remain the best supply of problems anyone has, and we use them.
What we do not do is read their raw scores as grades. A raw score of 30 on an old paper is a 42 on that exam’s chart and a 75 on the new one — the same number, 33 scale points apart, because the papers are different lengths. A student practising on old material and reading the old chart is being told something untrue about where they stand, in whichever direction.
Beyond that, physics rewards one habit above all: writing the relationship down before touching a number. Students who can recite the formula and cannot say what it means when one term doubles lose marks on the parts that carry the most, and that is what a diagnostic looks for first.

What is the curve on the Physical Science: Physics Regents?
There is one published chart, June 2026, and on it a 65 took 23 of 50 raw points and an 85 took 39. That is a fact about one administration. It is not a curve, and anybody presenting a physics Regents curve with several years behind it is describing Physical Setting/Physics, the exam this one replaces.
How is this different from the Physical Setting physics exam?
It is a different examination under New York's new science learning standards, marked out of 50 rather than 85. Because those ranges overlap, a raw score of 30 exists on both papers — and it converts to 75 on the new chart and 42 on the old one. NYSED's schedule sets June 2027 as the final administration of the outgoing exam.
When is the physics Regents given?
In June. All 10 published charts for Physical Setting/Physics are June administrations, June 2015 to June 2026, and the one chart published so far for Physical Science: Physics is June 2026. Unlike Algebra I or biology, physics has not been offered in January or August, so a sitting that goes badly is a year's wait rather than six months. That is the single biggest reason to start earlier in physics than in any other science.
How do you prepare a student for an exam with no back catalogue?
With the exam that preceded it and an honest label on what transfers. Kinematics, forces, energy, waves and circuits do not change because the standards were rewritten, and a decade of released physics papers is still the best supply of problems in existence. What does not transfer is the raw score: an old paper practised now tells you about the physics, never about the grade, because its chart belongs to a different exam.
