Physics Regents Tutoring. There Is No August Retake.
Every conversion chart New York has published for this exam is a June sitting. That single fact should reorganise the year, and on most tutoring sites it is not mentioned at all.
Every sitting on record
Ten published charts. Every one of them says June.
Algebra I is set in January, June and August; a student who falls short in June sits it again three weeks later. Physics has no such thing in the record. Below is every conversion chart New York has published for this exam, most recent first.
- June 2026 · 50/85 for a 65
- June 2025 · 49/85 for a 65
- June 2024 · 48/85 for a 65
- June 2023 · 49/85 for a 65
- June 2022 · 48/85 for a 65
- June 2019 · 49/85 for a 65
- June 2018 · 48/85 for a 65
- June 2017 · 48/85 for a 65
- June 2016 · 49/85 for a 65
- June 2015 · 48/85 for a 65
Two things follow, and both are practical. First, the work has to be finished by June, so an autumn start is not caution, it is the schedule. Second, the pass line is a real bar: across those charts it has sat at 48 to 50 raw points out of 85, close to 59% of the paper. A student aiming exactly at it has no room for a bad morning and no second window to use if they have one.
This is what the published charts show, and charts only exist after a sitting. For which sittings are actually scheduled in your child’s year, the authority is the State Education Department’s schedule — and the exam’s announced final administration, June 2027, comes from its implementation schedule memo.
Every formula is handed over. That is not the difficulty.
The Reference Tables for Physical Setting/Physics are supplied at the exam, complete. No student loses marks because they forgot an equation. They lose marks for three other reasons, and all three are trainable.
They cannot tell what the question wants. A paragraph about a lift, a rope and a mass is a question about one specific quantity, and the sentence that says which one is usually the least dramatic sentence in the problem. We practise reading problems without solving them — just naming the target quantity — because that is the step that fails.
Units drift. Four steps, one centimetre left as a metre, and a right method produces a wrong answer that costs marks it did not need to. Carrying units through the algebra is a habit, and habits are what a weekly session installs.
They write the number and stop. As everywhere on the Regents, method carries the partial credit. On a multi-step physics problem that is a large share of the available marks, and strong students give away more of it than weak ones because they do more in their heads.
Past papers and scoring keys are free at nysedregents.org; the current tables are on nysed.gov.
Check the raw total before you use any chart
Physical Science: Physics is a different exam, scored out of 50. This one is scored out of 85. Because the ranges overlap from 0 to 50, a score read against the wrong exam looks entirely reasonable and is wrong. If the paper says 50, you want the Physical Science: Physics charts instead.
The same trap exists in chemistry, where we set it out in full on the Chemistry page.

Ten sittings of data is a thin record by Regents standards, which is exactly why it is worth looking at rather than guessing. Pick the June your child sat and read the score against that chart. We hold 10 published Physics charts, June 2015 to June 2026, read exactly as NYSED printed them — the June 2026 table included.
Physics questions parents actually ask
Is the Physics Regents only given in June?
Every conversion chart New York has published for Physical Setting: Physics — all ten we hold, from June 2015 to June 2026 — is a June sitting. There is no January or August chart in the record. Confirm the sittings for your child’s year against the State Education Department’s published schedule, but plan on the assumption that June is the opportunity, because historically it has been the only one.
So what happens if my child fails it?
Realistically, the next attempt is a year away, and the practical consequences are with the school: which science requirement it satisfies, whether another exam can be taken instead, what it means for the schedule in twelfth grade. That is a conversation to have with the counsellor immediately rather than in September, and it is the reason we are blunt about margins on this exam.
Is the Physics Regents ending?
Physical Setting: Physics has an announced final administration of June 2027 under New York’s implementation schedule for the new science Regents. Its replacement, Physical Science: Physics, is already being administered. Combine that with a June-only pattern and the remaining runway is short — which is an argument for starting in the autumn, not the spring.
How is it different from Physical Science: Physics?
They are two different exams and their raw ranges overlap, which is the trap. Physical Setting: Physics is scored out of 85 raw points; Physical Science: Physics is scored out of 50. If a practice paper or a score report is out of 85, it belongs to the older exam. Nothing will flag a score read on the wrong chart.
My child is good at maths but stuck in physics. Why?
Usually because physics questions do not tell you which quantity they want. The reference tables hand over every formula; what they do not hand over is recognising that a question about a car braking is a question about acceleration, and keeping units coherent through four steps. That is a translation skill, not a maths skill, and it is what we drill.
How much does Physics Regents tutoring cost?
A $150 diagnostic, then $125 per one-on-one session, at 928 Broadway in the Flatiron or online. Pay per session — no packages, no contracts, no minimum.
$150 diagnostic, $125 a session — full pricing. Physics leans on Algebra II more than students expect. Every subject is listed on the Regents tutoring page.

With one sitting a year and an announced end in June 2027, the calendar is the constraint. Tell us the year your child sits it and we will say what is realistic.
